how He loves us
Aug 16th
i thought i would recommend another song that i picked up recently on itunes. it’s called how He loves us. the song was originally written by john mark mcmillan. it was most recently covered by david crowder* band as single on their upcoming release, church music. it is an amazing song that portrays the love that God has for us using imagery that brings this song to life. here are the lyrics…
He is jealous for me,
loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
when all of a sudden,
i am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
and i realize just how beautiful You are,
and how great Your affections are for me.
and oh, how He loves us so,
oh how He loves us,
how He loves us all
yeah, He loves us,
whoa, how He loves us,
whoa, how He loves us,
whoa, how He loves.
yeah, He loves us,
whoa, how He loves us,
whoa, how He loves us,
whoa, how He loves.
we are His portion and He is our prize,
drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes,
if grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.
so heaven meets earth like a sloppy wet kiss,
and my heart turns violently inside of my chest,
i don’t have time to maintain these regrets,
when i think about, the way…
1 John 4:10 says,
“This is real love – not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.”
God’s love for His children could be described using so many various adjectives, but sometimes words do not suffice.
oh how He loves us!
rest
Aug 14th
it’s been a long time since i just rested. the last two weeks or so have been a blur in the amount of stuff i’ve had going on. i feel like i’m always saying that. i’m trying so hard to grasp moments day by day before they fly past me. i’ve taken a chance to just rest tonight and have some ‘matt’ time. magan is hosting a bachelorette weekend for emily, who will be getting married to another matt in october (congrats!). so, i’m chillin’ at mom and dad’s house this weekend. my family has actually been on vacation this past week and they’ll be coming back home tomorrow. bandit and i have just been resting at their house tonight. it was nice to just relax on the couch and totally disengage my brain and watch a good action movie, taken. it’s now 12:32am and i’m still up after being up till 2am last night (long story for another post). i know i could fall asleep in an instant, but for some reason my body and mind are cool with just resting right now, which doesn’t necessarily mean sleep. does that make sense to anyone else? does this happen to anyone else?
i know this has just been some mindless rambling, but i like to write every now and again. wish i had the chance to do it a little more often. maybe then i could write something with some more substance.
rest well,
matt
revelation song
Aug 5th
i downloaded some new music the other day off of some random itunes gift cards i found from birthdays and christmas’ past. i wanted to pick up some of the newer songs that we’ve been singing at journey. we sang revelation song by gateway worship this past weekend at journey and it rocked my face off. i was in tears as we sang about the holiness of God. then opening my eyes to see everyone worshiping in the exact same way was just amazing. here are the lyrics.
worthy is the Lamb Who was slain
holy, holy is He
sing a new song to Him Who sits on Heaven’s mercy seat
holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty
Who was and is and is to come
with all creation i sing praise to the King of kings
You are my everything, and i will adore You
clothed in rainbows of living color
flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder
blessing and honor, strength and glory and power be
to You, the only wise King
holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty
Who was and is and is to come
with all creation i sing praise to the King of kings
You are my everything, and i will adore You
filled with wonder, awestruck wonder
at the mention of Your Name
Jesus, Your Name is power, breath and living water, such a marvelous mystery
holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty
Who was and is and is to come
with all creation i sing praise to the King of kings
You are my everything, and i will adore You
if you don’t own this song, i recommend you pick it up on the quick.
money: that's what i want
Aug 3rd
okay. so that title sounds a little self-centered and arrogant, but it’s not what it seems. this was the title the latest sermon series we just finished up at journey church. money can always be a topic that makes people squirm in general and even more in church. the series was ultimately about stewardship with the tone of being good stewards of the money that God has blessed us with. growing up in church, i heard many a sermon of stewardship/tithing, but none of them stuck with me like this one. pastor jimmy did a great job of laying it out there in terms that i could understand. magan and i really learned quite a few tangible principles too apply to the money that God has blessed us with. we continue to pray that we will be good stewards with it.
“Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.”
1 Timothy 6:17-19
if you don’t remember anything else, here’s a quote that stuck with me; “trust in the Source, not in your stash.” if you’d like to check out the entire series, visit www.takeajourney.org. it is definitely worth your time.
