hillsong new york

i was just sorting through the nearly 1,000 posts in my google reader feed, since i was in honduras, and came across this nugget. i’m excited that hillsong is following in God’s call for them to plant a church in new york city, but this reason i post this is because of the video. i love the desaturated colors and the use of interviews as narration to the video. very well done.

proverbs | part 1

we just kicked off an eight-week series at journey. we’re studying the book proverbs for the summer of 2010. an eight-week series is one of the longest that we do. we’re splitting the series into two, four-week studies. proverbs part 1 and proverbs part 2. we hope that splitting it up will keep everyone engaged and help them not run of the risk of get burned out on it.

i’m still trying to figure out what types of thoughts i’d like to share here. i thought this would be a great outlet for displaying the stuff i get to work on and explain how we pull it off. maybe it will be helpful information to someone out there who is doing similar stuff. below is the title package for part 1 of the proverbs series. you could also call it an intro video to the sermon.

i started with an after effects template from revostock. revostock and videohive are top-notch sites where i have purchased after effects templates. the templates can be somewhat pricey, but the results are well worth the price. the original idea we had was to list some of the main topics we would be covering in part 1 of the series, but then elected to highlight a key verse from proverbs. we chose proverbs 1:5.

“let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance,”

the audio track is “stand still” by the album leaf. we recently saw the album leaf in concert in chapel hill at the cat’s cradle with some of the journey staff. if you get a chance to see them live, do it.

in week one of the series, jimmy covered the overall theme of proverbs, wisdom. this coming weekend smooth will be sharing about what it means to fear the Lord. i encourage you to listen or watch to the sermons online if you have a hankering. it’s well worth your time.

i am second

i came across iamsecond.com a few months and recently it was on the collide magazine blog, so i took some time to check it out again. here’s the description of the site from the about page…

“i am second is a movement where significance in life is a shared value among people of all kinds. actors. athletes. musicians. business leaders. your next-door neighbor. people just like you. their authentic stories here on imsecond.com provide insight into dealing witht he typical struggles of everyday living. you’ll meet people who overcame destructive lifestyles. plugs you’ll discover those who’ve tried to go it alone and have failed, yet still found a life full of hope, peace and fulfillment.”

the site has some really great video content. they are very strong stories protrayed in video format. the videos have a unique look and site is pretty slick as well.

if you have some time to sit and watch, you should check it out.

on a side note, it has the amazing story of josh hamilton, a fellow journey church member.

u2 + the passion of the Christ

i was reading through some of the blogs that i check daily and i came across this video. it came from the new collide maganzine blog. the video mixes the u2 song “until the end of the world” with clips from “the passion of christ.”

i personally don’t know a lot of u2′s music, but this song fascinated me, especially when combined with the video. i’m always looking for new, creative, christian media because i have such a passion for media and ministry. i don’t believe that i’ve caught the full meaning to the song yet. i know it has to do with the relationship between jesus and judas. i’ve been searching the internet over, looking at what people think the song is about. everyone has a different opinion.

what are your thoughts?
